За поцелуй дал девке пятачок.
Фальшивым медный был пятак.

There was an old man in a velvet coat,
He kissed a maid and gave her a groat;
The groat was cracked and would not go,
Ah, old man, do you serve me so?

Вот зеркальце и рядом брошь,
Там, в люльке, кроха спит.

Here are the lady’s knives and forks,
Here is the lady’s table,
Here is the lady’s looking glass,
And here is the lady’s cradle.

На место голову воздвиг.

Прошёл я лишь один квартал, –

Я глянул и сказал с тоской:
?Во сне оставил их, друг мой?.

As I was going out one day
My head fell out and rolled awayn,
But when I saw that it was gone,
I picked it up and put it on.
And when I went into the street
A fellow cried: ?Look at your feet!?
I looked at them and sadly said:
?I’ve got them both asleep in bed!?
